How the true cost is calculated
Labour hours: Based on real customer data where 2TB of recordings takes ~490 hours with a Kaleidoscope workflow — running the classifier, manually reviewing and correcting misidentifications, exporting results, re-checking edge cases. The same volume takes ~163 hours with BioSonic. This is consistent across customers and documented in the Wharton case study.
Licence cost: Kaleidoscope Pro is a single annual subscription — $399 USD direct from Wildlife Acoustics, or £425 inc VAT (£354.17 ex VAT) from NHBS in the UK (May 2026). Continental EU resellers list €292–€412 ex VAT depending on country. NHBS lists Kaleidoscope Pro at £425 inc VAT (£354.17 ex VAT) as of May 2026. One licence covers processing; the free version can be used for manual vetting. We default to one licence but you can override with your actual spend.
Total cost: The licence is only part of the picture. Manual review time is often the largest cost in any bat analysis workflow. This calculator helps you estimate the full cost.
Labour estimates assume a standard Kaleidoscope workflow. Actual hours depend on team experience, site complexity, and species mix.
